This book was given to me over 15 yrs ago after I lost a dog (four legged kid), since then we give it to every friend who loses a dog, I think we have bought over 50 in the last 15 yrs and will continue to do so, it is the sweetest gift to give to those who suffering from the loss of our precious furbabies...
The recipient was beyond appreciative to receive this book. It was a wonderful help to someone who had just lost her dog.I received it as a gift when our dog passed and we have given it to others knowing how much it helped us to cope with our loss.
Every time a friend loses a pal, I send them this book. The first time I read it, I was sobbing until I threw up. Now, ordinarily, I wouldn't recommend something to make someone puke, but this is the most amazing book about dogs I've ever read. My Lab/Greyhound mix had died a few years before, and I already had my new pup, but I could just hear Murphy talking to me in this book. (Anthropomorphize, much Mary?).Every time I have given this to someone, they call or write and say essentially the same thing: 'I read this once, and cried my eyes out. Then, I read it again, and it was amazingly healing.". The illustrations are beautiful, as well.
I gave this wonderful book to some good friends whose dog passed, and they were touched by the sentiment. Of course their dog was the best dog ever! They've recently adopted another dog, and I think that honors the spirit of their other one very nicely. I wish I'd known about this book earlier since my parents could have used the kind, moving words when their last dog passed.

At first we were not going to get another OES. But reading this book helped us to understand that another OES dog would be honoring our departed dog of 13 years. We were so spoiled with his loving nature. It felt like we were going to disrespect him by running out and getting another dog. But the book explained that we were honoring him by getting another dog.We did purchase a 6 week old OES puppy. He is now 15 weeks old and the charm of our lives. If I did not know any better, I would suspect that our old OES came back to us as this puppy! Life is Good when you have wonderful companions...
